Successful People Life – Successful People Have Vision, Purpose in Life

Successful People Life

Yesterday I experienced something that really made me appreciate the vision I have been blessed with to become my own boss and create my own destiny. As many of you may already know, I was a police officer for 20 plus years prior to becoming a full time entrepreneur. I had an occasion to visit that same police department yesterday in order to pick up some equipment of mine that had been stored there. I was in the garage with a friend and former co-worker when I noticed a coffin in the corner of the room. I asked my friend what the coffin was for and he related that it was for the Honor Guard to practice and train with in order to be prepared for funeral details.

All I could think of at that time was that for many of my former co-workers that box was the only way they would ever leave that world. I don’t mean in some horrible line of duty death either. I mean that most of them had stopped dreaming long ago and they hung on to the “reality” of exchanging time for money and having a safe secure place to work. Most people today actually die at the age of 25 but don’t get buried until they are 75, because they forget about their dreams and passions and just go through the motions of doing what is necessary to get them through the day. Before entering police work I had worked in just about every job available to me as a high school graduate. I had actually taken a shot at being a “business owner” once before, but failed miserably because I had no education in the principles of business management and was not disciplined in self-management of myself, as many of you can probably relate to. I became discouraged and retreated back to my comfort zone; working for someone else.

As a young boy I had always dreamed of becoming a police officer but for years I was kind of a rebel and I feared entering a line of work that was so rigid and regulated. After my second son was born however, a good secure job looked more appealing to me than ever before. Once immersed within the bureaucracies of municipal government, rife with a scared, cover your butt mentality along with the union employee mindset of entitlement, I became frustrated. I had always been a free spirit and independent thinking person and I was raised with a work ethic based on giving my employer an honest day’s work for an honest day’s pay, no matter what I was doing, or who I worked for. Working as a police officer it became apparent to me over time that I was just a body in a uniform performing the assigned duties of the day. No different than any other member of the department who could have easily been wearing that uniform completing the same assignments. Successful People Life
