Can you manage a dominant aggressive dog with anti depressants?

When we got married my German Shepherd all of a sudden had to live with two other dogs. She is a very good dog with an excellent temperament. She got very competitive with the other two dogs to the point of almost daily fights. We have worked for almost 9 months with 2 vets and a behavioralist and they all agree she is a good dog-just in the wrong home. There is too much competition for her. We are at the point of giving this dog up for adoption but want to keep her at home until we have found the right home for her. The problem is that she is dominant aggressive and terrorizes the other two dogs. One article from the vet talked about good success people have had with giving their dogs anti depressants to control the aggression temporarily. Has anybody had experience with this?

No dog experience, but I had a cat on anti-depressants. Basically, he acted as though he’d been sedated. I felt it was cruel.

I wouldn’t do it unless absolutely necessary.

Sorry to hear about this situation. Must be heatbreaking for you, but I’m sure you’re making the right decision. Sounds like you’ve tried just about everything.

Best of luck finding the best possible home.
