Media messages about body shape and size will affect the way we feel about our bodies and oursleves only if we let it happen. When we effectively recognize and analyze the media messages that influence us, we remember that the medias defenitons of beauty and success do not have to define our slf image or potential.

I agree that the media plays a role in people’s self-image of themselves but disagree that just by recognizing it people’s self-consciousness will go away. I see models who are skinny and thin and recognize that their lifestyles are unhealthy but still find myself being thankful for my thinness and terrified of gaining weight though i find the media to be misleading. Just recognizing the propagandic styles of the media won’t change a thing until the media itself changes to reflect the social values.
