Poseidon is the God of the sea, a very important figure in Greek mythology, since Greece has long been connected with water and sea-fare. Poseidon’s parents’ name are Chronos and Reya, and he is a brother of Zeus and Haides. When he was little Poseidon along with other senior gods was swallowed by his father who was afraid that his son will become a ruler of the gods instead of him. SInce Zeus was hidden from being eaten, he grew up and avanged his brothers and sisters by splitting his dad with a thunderbolt, which liberated Poseidon along with the others. They split ruling with Zeus being the God of Olympus, Haides – underworld. Poseidon – sea and salty waters. Poseidon’ was Odysseius’ antagonist, and is to blamed for his 10 year voyage home to Ithaca. He rides a chariot driven by the water horses and holds a trident that he uses to split the whole mountains and make storms at the sea. When its storming the Greeks say that “Poseidon is angry”.
